Last year we were informed by the Y of their desire to move in another direction. While the news came as surprise to us it did not surprise God. This is always reassuring to me. God was moving us. We began praying that he would provide the next location for us to meet.
One of our desires was to consider a permanent location where we might be able to settle. Admittedly, the reality of being reminded that we were tenants increased this desire. Nevertheless, as we looked we were reminded of a couple of truths:
As we looked it became increasingly clear to us that likely there would be a season between our time at the Y and a permanent home. With that in mind we began prayerfully considering a solution for us that would:
We believe God has graciously answered our prayers by providing a space that meets all 3 criteria. Beginning April 7 Christ Point Church will begin meeting in Cox Mill High School. I couldn’t be more excited. It may be odd to some, but I’m also excited because it provides a much needed reminder for me and for us that this is not our home. This is not insignificant and it also doesn’t mean that down the road we aren’t open to a permanent location. I’m convinced that space is simply a tool to accomplish our mission of pointing people to Jesus. Our end game is not a permanent location, but lives lived pointing people to Jesus. Christ Point Church is not a landing spot, but a sending spot. We are one of many outposts that make up the beautiful tapestry that is the local church. As a church our desire is that we function like special forces, not like a military parade. We come. We worship. We are nourished. We grow. We go. We’re excited to do this at Cox Mill. Our last Sunday at the Y will be March 31st. We’ll actually use that Sunday to pack, clean up our space, and leave it in better shape than we found it. We’ll have an opportunity to move our things to Cox Mill for this new chapter. As we approach our moving date please pray that God would be kind to us. Also, give God thanks for leading us to our new home. James Metsger |
