Luke 22:63-71
Jesus Is Mocked
63 Now the men who were holding Jesus in custody were mocking him as they beat him. 64 They also blindfolded him and kept asking him, “Prophesy! Who is it that struck you?” 65 And they said many other things against him, blaspheming him.
Jesus Before the Council
66 When day came, the assembly of the elders of the people gathered together, both chief priests and scribes. And they led him away to their council, and they said, 67 “If you are the Christ, tell us.” But he said to them, “If I tell you, you will not believe, 68 and if I ask you, you will not answer. 69 But from now on the Son of Man shall be seated at the right hand of the power of God.” 70 So they all said, “Are you the Son of God, then?” And he said to them, “You say that I am.” 71 Then they said, “What further testimony do we need? We have heard it ourselves from his own lips.”
Reflect:
Sometimes when my children ask the same thing one thousand eight hundred and ninety seven times in a row it gets annoying. So we have a phrase we use around the house: “Asked and answered.” It’s already been covered. We’ve had this conversation. You still can’t stay up and play video games until your eyeballs fall out. No, you still can’t have ice cream…for breakfast. No, I understand all your friends can go, but their parents clearly don’t love them like I love you. “Asked and answered.”
“If you are the Christ, tell us.” But he said to them, “If I tell you, you will not believe, and if I ask you, you will not answer.” Asked and answered. Sometimes we know the answer to our questions, it’s just not the answer we wanted. Jesus was revealing himself for those who had eyes to see, but many didn’t see. Do you see?
Maybe today you’re looking for a sign from God. Is it possible He already gave it? Salvation has come. He’s right before our eyes. Do you see him?
Respond:
How have you seen God in your own life? Spend time reflecting and give Him thanks.
If you are searching for answers today pray, “God, help me to see what you have revealed about your Son by any means necessary.” I believe God delights in answering these kind of prayers.
Love you, church
